Auto body employee busted for DWI

Police arrested an auto body shop worker after he reportedly drove a customer’s car while drunk. Police were called to West 29th Street at the corner of 10th Avenue because of reports of a drunk driver Saturday, June 3 at 11:50 p.m. When officers approached the car, they found the suspect slumped over the wheel with the keys in the ignition and the vehicle running. The car was facing eastbound on a westbound street and police said that the suspect had alcohol on his breath, as well as watery eyes and slurred speech. He reportedly tested .175 BAC on an Intoxilyzer. Police spoke with the car’s owner and found that she had brought it into Nacmias & Sons Auto Service on Coney Island to be fixed and had not given the suspect permission to drive it. When questioned, the suspect reportedly told police that he was just checking the car to see if it was running properly.

The victim said that the driver then took off while the cab driver sped after him, chasing the car for about three blocks. Police said that the suspect finally stopped and came out of the car, asking where he hit the cab driver, but the driver said that the suspect was too drunk to hold a conversation. A second man then jumped out of the car that hit the taxi and reportedly said, “Chill, chill, I got this,” but both men got back into the car and fled. The cab driver attempted to pursue them again while on the phone with the police and he got a photo of the suspect’s license plate, but no arrests have been made.
