Man busted for menacing

A man who had swung a knife at several people was arrested on menacing charges after he was fished out of the Hudson River, into which he had waded to try and avoid capture, police said. The 34-year-old man, who was not named, had argued early on Saturday morning with his ex-fiancé in her apartment and refused to leave, according to the police account. The woman called security personnel, who the man then threatened with a large serrated knife. The suspect then fled on foot, and was followed by one of the guards to Pier 79. A police officer responded to the scene but the suspect refused an order to stop and allegedly jumped into the water. Officers from the Emergency Service Unit then arrested the suspect, who reportedly had an outstanding warrant. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon and burglary.

Bag stolen from playground

A 41-year-old woman told police that her bag was stolen while she was inside the park at 12th Avenue and West 23rd St. on Thursday, May 24 around 3:30 p.m. She told police that she was in the park sunbathing and fell asleep when a witness woke her up and told her that a woman had run off with her purse, which contained the victim’s passport and $100 in cash. No arrests have been made.

Man punched by boyfriend

Police arrested a 53-year-old man for assault inside 400 West 37th St. on Saturday, May 26 around 7 p.m. The 28-year-old victim told police that the suspect, who is the victim’s boyfriend, punched him in the face because he didn’t want the victim to leave the apartment.

Man slapped for riding bicycle on sidewalk

A 19-year-old man reported that he was harassed while riding his bike on the sidewalk on West 27th Street near 11th Avenue on Thursday, May 24 at 7:50 p.m. The victim told police that he was on West 27th Street approaching 11th Avenue when the suspect, who wasn’t arrested, grabbed him by the arm and forced him to stop. The victim said that the man began yelling at him, telling him that he shouldn’t ride his bike on the sidewalk and slapped him in the face, while the victim recorded the argument. The victim told police that he wasn’t injured but was alarmed and feared for his safety.

Hit-and-run with sanitation truck

A 47-year-old man reported that a Sanitation truck hit his car and fled the scene near the southeast corner of Ninth Avenue and West 29th Street on Friday, May 25 at 6:15 p.m. The victim told police that the truck rear-ended his car and fled the location without exchanging information.
